Vision for the City
My Political Vision
Development
Unbridled, unfocused development can only be detrimental to White Rock and its residents. Finishing off the town centre area would be prudent, in order to provide uniformity to the uptown look and to provide the much needed infrastructure improvements that are long overdue. Medium-rise structures make a lot of sense outside of the uptown area so as to increase the density within our city and provide much needed rental units. The increased density should also help offset the velocity of property tax increases.
Safety
The policy requires police to inherit a proactive approach to address public safety concerns. The overall assessment of community-oriented policing is positive, as both officers and community members attest to its effectiveness in reducing crime.
Ecology
The “economy of ecology” has the perfect synergy in White Rock. Ecotourism is live and well in numerous cities and countries around the world. What better backdrop could there be than the beach and green spaces around White Rock to develop this strategic environmental/economic sector?
Infrastructure
There are a number of capital projects that need to be initiated and continued within the city in order to keep up with our current and future population base. This is in line with the national and provincial initiative to upgrade the infrastructure in the country.
Responsible Tax Dollar Spending
There always needs to be a respect for the residents and business owners of White Rock. Property tax increases should be held to the rate of inflation. Anything more than that means that something is wrong with the municipal budget. Those living on fixed incomes would be the first to benefit from that strategy.
